Magic Kingdom Tomorrowland PeopleMover Refurbishment Extended Through Christmas

October 15, 2020

It’s gonna be a little longer before guests can board the fan-favorite PeopleMover at the Magic Kingdom.  Disney updated their refurbishment calendar indicating December 27, 2020 as the new reopening date.   A month ago reports had the ride back up and running in late November.  Since the ride’s reopening has been delayed a number of times over the past few months there’s really no telling how long this new extension could last.

It’s not unusual for rides to under go occasional refurbishment to replace parts, safety upgrades, add/remove set pieces and routine maintenance.  At around 10-minutes long PeopleMover is one of the longest rides at a Disney park and was in need of some attention.   Having a high-capacity ride like the PeopleMove down for an extended period of time is bummer for a number of reasons, but mostly I miss the relaxing ride and beautiful views of the park; plus it was a great way to see TRON construction.

When the Magic Kingdom reopened to guests in July fans of the favorite attraction were disappointed to find it still closed.  According to a report by Blog Mickey the PeopleMover is receiving a full replacement of all the magnetic linear induction motors along the 5400′ of track.  Prior to its closer the attraction began having serious issues leading to significant downtown.
