Construction Progresses on Facades and Paving for Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Construction continues to advance on the upcoming Monstropolis land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, bringing new structural details, decorative touches, and ground-level paving to the area formerly known as Muppets Courtyard.
Recent updates from the park highlight exterior improvements taking shape across the land’s building facades. Crews have added cream-colored trim resembling rows of pointed teeth along the top of the restroom building, which was previously home to Gonzo’s Royal Flush. Pointed projections have also been added to frame windows with predatory, ear-like shapes, while painters apply pale mortar lines by hand to dark red and brown brickwork. Overlapping shakes resembling monster scales on the side facing Grand Avenue now display blue, orange-brown, and muted gray tones.
Ground-level developments are also visible in the main entrance plaza, where the first red and gray paving bricks have been laid near the entrance columns. Workers are constructing an octagonal feature fountain in the middle of the plaza across from the former MuppetVision 3D building, which is becoming The Glob theater and will host the show Welcome to Monstropolis! With Sulley & Mike. Nearby, low concrete walls are rising in a new courtyard space in the footprint of the former Stage 1 Company Store, situated outside Harryhausen’s and Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza.
Disney recently filed a new Notice of Commencement permit for Harryhausen’s, assigning general construction work to Artistic Entertainment Services for the upcoming table-service restaurant, which replaces Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano.
Outside the park’s original footprint in a former Cast Member parking lot, work proceeds on the land’s door roller coaster. The attraction building features blue walls and steel framing, with black coaster track supports and additional Vekoma-manufactured track sections staged nearby or visible at an off-site staging area near EPCOT. The ride will function as Disney’s first suspended coaster, featuring a vertical-lift system to hoist guests into the air for a ride through the Door Vault.

While the coaster will open later, the bulk of Monstropolis is scheduled to open in phases starting in 2027. Outside the construction walls, a small merchandise cart is currently selling Monsters, Inc. souvenirs for visitors exploring the park.
