Bakso the Sumatran Tiger to Leave Disney’s Animal Kingdom This Fall

Bakso, the popular Sumatran tiger born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, will leave the park later this fall. Disney shared the news as Bakso celebrated his second birthday with a themed party called Barrels of Fun on the Maharajah Jungle Trek.

Born in September 2024 to mother Sohni and father Conrad, Bakso was the first Sumatran tiger cub born at Walt Disney World in seven years. He made his public debut in January 2025, drawing large crowds that prompted cast members to temporarily adjust foot traffic patterns on the walking trail. Over the past two years, park visitors have watched him grow from a curious cub into a confident young adult.

Disney explained that Bakso is moving to another Association of Zoos and Aquariums accredited zoo. While Disney has not yet announced an exact departure date or his future home, the transfer follows a breeding recommendation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan.

As Bakso enters adulthood, the move represents a natural step for a young tiger to become more independent and establish his own territory. Conservation experts emphasize the critical importance of the transfer. With fewer than 600 Sumatran tigers remaining in the wild, Bakso could one day father cubs of his own and contribute to the long-term survival of the endangered species.

Guests visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom still have a limited time to see Bakso along the Maharajah Jungle Trek in the Asia section of the park before he relocates.
