Aerial Views Reveal Latest Construction Progress on Monsters, Inc. Door Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

New aerial photographs provide a detailed look at the ongoing construction of the Monsters, Inc. door coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The massive show building continues to take shape in a former backstage Cast Member parking area behind the upcoming Monstropolis land.

The structure’s footprint reveals the scale of what will be one of the largest attraction show buildings at Walt Disney World. Much of the building’s steel framework remains open, but crews have installed roof decking and corrugated metal across several sections. Different roof heights illustrate the intended path for riders. Two towering gray structures in the center of the building support the vertical lift systems, where coaster trains will be hoisted more than 40 feet.

Guests will board suspended trains near the floor of the Monsters, Inc. factory. During the roughly four-second ascent, the seats will rotate from a sideways loading position to face forward while remaining level. Once at the top, trains will launch into the door vault portion of the attraction, recreating the moment bedroom doors are lifted from the scare floor. Additional roof structure is now rising over the loading section, featuring curved steel frames that resemble the M-shaped structures depicted in Disney station concept art.

Multiple red lattice-boom crawler cranes and various lift equipment remain active around the site to place steel and move materials. The attraction will feature the first suspended roller coaster and the first vertical-lift coaster at a Disney park, allowing riders to glide beneath the track in vehicles designed to evoke moving bedroom doors.

The coaster is a key component of the new Monstropolis land, which will reuse some existing structures from the former Grand Avenue and Muppets Courtyard area following closures that began in May 2025. Monstropolis will open in phases beginning in 2027, with the Glob Theater featuring the new show Welcome to Monstropolis! With Sulley & Mike. The Monsters, Inc. door coaster will open later, with an expected opening in 2028.
