Tokyo Disneyland Sets Official Opening Date for World’s First Wreck-It Ralph Attraction

Tokyo Disney Resort has officially announced that Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue will open on April 15, 2027, at Tokyo Disneyland. The new ride marks the first theme park attraction in the world based on the Walt Disney Animation Studios film Wreck-It Ralph. The opening date holds special significance as it coincides with the 44th anniversary of Tokyo Disneyland.
The attraction takes over the space formerly occupied by Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters, which closed permanently in October 2024. Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue utilizes an updated version of the previous ride system to place guests directly into the candy-themed racing game.

Within the storyline, King Candy is plotting to take over the video game universe and has transformed treats such as gumdrops, lollipops, bubble gum, and ice cream into Sugar Bugs programmed to consume the entire kingdom. Guests board ride vehicles equipped with built-in scanners and join forces with Ralph, Vanellope, and their friends. Riders must work together to defend Sugar Rush by turning the Sugar Bugs back into their original kawaii forms.
Points are awarded based on the types and number of Sugar Bugs restored. Guests can view their scores on vehicle display screens at the end of the ride, as well as on the Tokyo Disney Resort App for a limited time afterward. Additionally, ride photos are automatically added to My Photos in the app for purchase.
To build excitement ahead of the grand opening, Tokyo Disney Resort has scheduled a series of countdown events and offerings. A smartphone mini-game will launch on January 12, 2027, allowing fans to practice saving the game from home or within select areas of Tokyo Disneyland using park scenery as a background. Attraction-inspired decorations and photo opportunities will arrive in Tomorrowland on February 18, 2027. On March 18, 2027, projection-mapping imagery inspired by the ride will debut on Cinderella Castle.
Several new food and retail locations are also part of the rollout. Pixel Prism, a shop inspired by a digital marketplace with fiber-optic design elements and pixel-patterned flooring, will open alongside the attraction on April 15, 2027, offering plush toys, candy, and scanner-inspired merchandise.

Popping Station, a new popcorn stand overlooking Tomorrowland Plaza, will open earlier on March 17, 2027. The location will introduce Sugar-Lime Popcorn, a sweet-and-tart flavor inspired by the Sugar Bugs, which will also be sold at popcorn wagons throughout the park. Furthermore, restaurants across Tokyo Disneyland will serve special menu items to commemorate the grand opening.
Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue is part of a larger Tomorrowland renovation project that includes the upcoming Tomorrowland Plaza and Space Mountain Earthrise. While an opening date has now been set for the Wreck-It Ralph attraction, an official opening date for Space Mountain Earthrise has not yet been announced.
