The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is currently undergoing a notable exterior refurbishment while remaining open to guests. Recent progress on the project has restored a prominent opening day detail that had faded significantly over the years.

Crews utilizing scaffolding and working with contractors such as MLC Theming have been refreshing the exterior facade of the Hollywood Tower Hotel. Saturated purple and violet paint has been applied to the upper facade to bring back the lightning strike scarring that traces back to the fictional 1939 backstory of the hotel. The vibrant purple streaks and dark painted cracks wrap around the arched windows near the top of the building, matching historical photos from Walt Disney Imagineering when the attraction originally opened in July 1994.

Alongside the ongoing exterior work, speculation regarding the attraction has grown following a recent visit by voice actor Mark Silverman. Silverman, who has provided the voice-matched narration for Rod Serling since the ride’s inception, shared a photo on social media showing that he recently visited Walt Disney Imagineering headquarters in Glendale, California.

Silverman won the role after auditioning at Imagineering in 1993, selected by Disney alongside Rod Serling’s widow, Carol Serling. His voice is paired with archival footage of Serling during the pre-show. When a follower on social media asked Silverman if fans would be hearing something new from him at Disney, he replied, “Well… could be.”

Neither Disney nor Silverman has confirmed official details regarding the purpose of his visit or whether new dialogue is officially planned for the attraction. However, the combination of exterior restoration work and the voice actor’s recent appearance at Imagineering has drawn attention from guests monitoring the ride. The Tower of Terror continues to operate for visitors at Disney’s Hollywood Studios as the refurbishment moves forward.
