Lightning McQueen Arrives at Italian Grand Prix for Disney and Formula 1 Partnership

Disney and Formula 1 are bringing Pixar magic directly to the track as part of their ongoing “Fuel the Magic” collaboration. Lightning McQueen is heading to Monza, Italy, for the FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO D’ITALIA 2026, marking a major milestone as the character takes on his biggest real-world racing trip yet.
The timing aligns with two major celebrations, as the Italian race weekend runs from September 4 to September 6, leading up to Lightning McQueen Day on September 5. The event also coincides with the 20th anniversary of the original release of Cars.
In a nod to the movie’s history, McQueen received a special invitation to the circuit from his longtime rival, Francesco Bernoulli. Stepping away from fictional tracks like the Piston Cup and the World Grand Prix, the Piston Cup champion has an official job for the weekend, serving as the race’s official support vehicle.
McQueen is debuting an all-new look created specifically for the Disney and Formula 1 partnership. His classic red paint job is paired with Formula 1 branding, including custom styling on his tires and wheels.
He is not the only vehicle receiving a thematic upgrade for the weekend. The Mercedes-AMG Official FIA Safety Car features a special Cars-inspired makeover with matching red and white styling, along with Cars branding on the doors and hood. Because the safety car plays an active role on the track and appears on the worldwide broadcast, millions of viewers will see the crossover design.
Fans visiting the circuit will find several additional experiences throughout the fan zone. Mattel is hosting an activation that brings the world of Radiator Springs to life, and a special screening of Cars is scheduled during the race weekend.

Attendees can also shop the first-ever Cars x Formula 1 collection at Monza, which includes apparel, accessories, and collectibles, alongside Mattel die-cast vehicles. Select products from the collection will later be available online through the Disney Store and the Formula 1 Official Online Store.
