Magic Kingdom Tomorrowland PeopleMover Refurbishment Extended into January 2021

October 20, 2020

Here we are, less than a week later with another delay.  As Han would say, “I’ve got a bad feeling about this.”   Guests will now have to wait until January 02, 2021 before boarding the fan-favorite Tomorrowland PeopleMover at Magic Kingdom.  This is the fourth date change since the refurbishment was announced.  At this points it’s anyone’s guess as to when the ride will actually reopen.

While it’s not unusual for rides to under go occasional refurbishment to replace parts, safety upgrades, add/remove set pieces and routine maintenance, it is unusual for a ride to be closed this long and continually have its reopening date be a moving target.  At around 10-minutes long PeopleMover is one of the longest rides at a Disney park and was in need of some attention.   Having a high-capacity ride like the PeopleMove down for an extended period of time is real bummer.

When the Magic Kingdom reopened to guests in July fans of the favorite attraction were disappointed to find it still closed.  According to a report by Blog Mickey the PeopleMover is receiving a full replacement of all the magnetic linear induction motors along the 5400′ of track.  Prior to its closer the attraction began having serious issues leading to significant downtown.
